Frequently asked questions
What is bias binding used for?
- Bias tape is most commonly used to bind a raw edge of fabric, usually, it is visible from the outside of a garment.
- Manufacturers often use bias bindings to replace the need to have lining and facing in clothes. In delicate places such as necklines and sleeve edges, bindings are more cost-efficient and easier to sew.
- Other common uses for bias binding tape include button loops on clothing, decoration fabric with stripes and patterns, edges for quilt blankets and throws and tailoring on a suit or jacket.
- Bias binding is a popular choice for bunting tape; to create the line to which you attach your flags and hang up on walls. With such a variety of colours, you can make bunting for any occasion!
Are there any tools to make bias binding tape easier to sew onto fabric?
If you want some guidance when using your sewing machine to sew your binding tape, we recommend one of our seam guides which are great for improving accuracy and applying your tape in a straight line.
